Toms and bass drums have different combinations of vent holes. These air flow vents are placed at the Nodal line with the lugs, so as to not affect the resonance of the shells.

Mapex trommestammer lages av flere forskjellige treslagkombinasjoner. Amerikansk lønn, basswood, valnøtt, kirsebær og påfugllønn alterneres i forskjellige lag avhengig av hvilke akustiske egenskaper som ønskes. Produksjonsprosessen kjennetegnes av en kombinasjon av tradisjonell håndverkskunnskap og avansert datateknikk. Stammene gis eksempelvis eksakt riktig form gjennom en datakontrollert varme- og trykkprosess mens de mange lakklagene applikeres for hånd. Stammenes kanter formes i sin tur både for hånd og av datastyrte slipemaskiner. Avslutningsvis monteres og stemmes hver tromme av Mapex' erfarne håndverkere.
Foruten at man naturligvis bare benytter tre- og metallegeringer av høyeste kvalitet benytter Mapex seg av et eget system med flytende fester, kalt I.T.S., og stemmehus av Low Mass-modell som er konstruert for å påvirke treet i trommene så lite som mulig
